High Temperature Damage Accumulation in Hot Pressed Alumina
نویسندگان
چکیده
The development of grain-boundary cavitation in hot-pressed A1203 both during flexural creep and tress-free annealing in air has been studied. Creep damage accumulation in driven both by the applied stress, and by internal gas pressure in the cavities. The internal pressure results from gas trapped during hot pressing, and from gas-generating chemical reactions active during testing. At machined surfaces, a damage-resistant skin about 15-20 pm thick overlies a heavily cavitated region.

Comparison of Creep Behavior in Alumina Based Ceramics Densified by Spark Plasma Sintering and Hot Pressing
Spark plasma sintering (SPS) method, as plasma activated sintering, is a method applicable for rapid sintering of metals and ceramics. Owing to the advantage of rapid heating, the alumina ceramics obtained by SPS have a grain size and density comparable to those of hot pressed ones. The increase of densification rate may be related to some difference in ion transport characteristics. This study...
متن کاملEvaluation of Ductile Damage Criteria in Hot Forming Processes
The process of ductile fracture which occurs due to the accumulation, growth and combination of defects or cracks of material is called ductile damage. Failure in materials can be predicted, using damage mechanics and damage criteria. On the other hand, most of the materials depended to the manufacturing process, are formed in warm or hot conditions so that; the temperature also affects on the ...
متن کاملEffect of Grain-Boundary Phase
Two types of hot-pressed silicon nitride, one having an amorphous grain-boundary phase (6 wt% yttria, 3 wt% alumina) and the other having a predominantly crystalline grain-boundary phase (8 wt% yttria, 1 wt% alumina), were tested on a split Hopkinson pressure bar with a momentum trap, such that, in each test, the sample was subjected to a single predefined stress pulse and then recovered withou...
متن کاملCarbon nanotubes-Fe-Alumina nanocomposites. Part II: microstructure and mechanical properties of the hot-Pressed composites
Carbon nanotubes±Fe±Al2O3 massive composites have been prepared by hot-pressing the corresponding composite powders, in which the carbon nanotubes are arranged in bundles smaller than 100 nm in diameter and several tens of micrometers long, forming a web-like network around the Fe±Al2O3 grains. In the powders, the quantity and the quality of the carbon nanotubes both depend on the Fe content (2...
متن کاملSynthesis and Sintering of Ti3SiC2–SiC Composites through Reactive Hot-Pressing of TiC and Si Precursors
MAX phases are an attractive class of layered solids that have recently attracted a great deal of attention due to their unusual and unique composition. The ternary compound Ti3SiC2 is an example of a material that combines the properties of ceramics and metals. As a ceramic, they are high stiff. Some of them are resistant to oxidation, creep, fatigue, corrosion. They are extremely refractory a...
